辅音音素前用“a”,元音音素前用“an”,所以正确写法是“an email”。

Cambridge

  • "We are planning a meeting next week."
  • "The meeting will be on Tuesday."

2. a还是an:听发音

university "yoo" (辅音音素) a university
one-year contract "wun" (辅音音素) a one-year contract
hour "ow" (元音音素,h不发音) an hour
MP3 file "em" (元音音素) an MP3 file

“an update”和“an invoice”同理,而“a user”和“a European client”以辅音“y”开头。

把字母读出来:“an HR manager”(aitch)、“a KPI review”(kay)、“an FAQ page”(eff)。

辅音音素用a: a university, a one-year contract, a user, a KPI review. 元音音素用an: an hour, an MP3 file, an email, an HR manager. 辅音音素元音音素use ause ana university"yoo"a one-year contract"wun"a user"y"a KPI review"kay"an hourh不发音,"ow"an MP3 file"em"an email"ee"an HR manager"aitch"缩写同样适用:把字母读出来。

  • advice, information, progress, news, work
  • equipment, furniture, luggage
  • money, permission, research, travel

Could you give me an information about the schedule? Could you give me some information about the schedule?

Thank you for the advices. Thank you for the advice.

We made a good progress this week. We made good progress this week.

要表示不可数名词的一个单位,Cambridge建议使用a piece of或an item of这样的表达:“a piece of advice”“a piece of equipment”“a bit of news”。

4. 何时用the

“Did you see the email from the client?”

“Information is important”是泛指。“The information you sent was very helpful”则是特定的信息。

“The budget for Q3 is approved.”“The results of the survey are attached.”

Cambridge提到,the用于人人都知道的物质世界事物,如太阳和地球,以及日常生活中的说法,如“on the Internet”和“on the radio”。

Cambridge对比了“Books are so important”(泛指书)和“The books were all over the floor”(特定的书)。

  • "Customers want faster delivery."
  • "The customers in the pilot want faster delivery."

Cambridge指出,冠词不与your, this, that, any, some等词同时使用。应是“Please send your report”,而不是“the your report”。

Cambridge说,月份前不用the(“in September”),书面日期通常也不带the,尽管人们口头会说“the twenty-fourth of May”。

6. 职业要用a/an

Cambridge指出,谈论某人的职业时要用a或an:“She's a gardener.”在工作邮件中:“He is an engineer on the payments team”,而不是“He is engineer”。

Our new hire is designer with five years of experience. Our new hire is a designer with five years of experience.

那它需要a/an、the或其他限定词。
去掉a/an和复数*-s*。
用the。

  • 按第一个音选择a或an,所以是“a university”和“an hour”。
  • 不要在information、advice、progress和equipment等不可数名词前用a/an。
  • 只有指特定例子时,才在不可数名词前用the,如“the information you sent”。
